Educational Technology Philosophy Statement
I believe that education should be a hands on process. I think that students learn better when they can see something happening and changing before their eyes and if they can get their hands on it and really change it then I believe teaching them a subject is even easier. Students typically learn better when they are allowed to “play” with what they are learning. Learning becomes fun to them.
When it comes to implementing technology into the curriculum, I believe that it needs to be done on a small basis. I just did a research paper and when students were exposed to the computer for 40 minutes their memory and achievement decrease and nervousness, and violence increased. So it’s important to keep technology to a small amount. However, this did not include the protractor. I love the idea of putting information on a large scale for students to view the information. I think that it’s important that they are exposed to different kinds of technology and different ways of learning a subject.
To me, there are a lot of advantages of having technology in the classroom. I believe that students are able to process information a lot fast when exposed to technology. They tend to pick up on information faster when they are allowed to interact with the lesson. I’ve found a lot of interactive websites that I think would be great to use in the classroom. But they would mostly be as a reward for good behavior or for having an assignment done early. I haven’t really found a good way to implement the interactive sites into a lesson. Another way of using technology in the classroom, that I would use, is clickers. I love the idea of having students answer quiz questions or just having a way to see if they have really learned the information that we just went over. Clickers are definitely something that I will be using in my classroom.
I think that when done correctly, technology can be a great aspect of a classroom. I love that there are so many new ways to have technology in the classroom and that there are so many new types of technology that are becoming available for everyday use. I think that we are just beginning to scratch the surface of what technology can do for us a teachers.
